Christopher Hitchins ... dead reckoning.

The world famous atheist is dead.

He spent his entire life fighting against something he claims didn't exist.  Let's think about that for a minute.  How many people do you know who would spend their life fighting against the belief in a flying spaghetti monster?

Nobody.

So why did he do it?  Why was he so passionate and profane in his attacks against God, while at the same time claiming he didn't even believe He existed?

He actually admitted why on a radio interview he did with Todd Friel. He said that he wanted to live his life his way without any accountability.  And so he did.  (As did Frank Sinatra who even wrote a song about it.)

So there you have it ... he denied science, history, ethics, biology, and logic ... just to live the way he wanted to.  Sounds a lot like the same sin as in the Garden ... how little man has changed since creation.

Sadly, Christopher has now learned how foolish he was, and how dear the consequences for our sin.  We can hope that before he died he repented and trusted in Jesus, but he was kicking and screaming his hatred towards God until the very end.  So sad.  Kind of like someone standing in a train tunnel, feeling the vibrations, seeing the bright light, and feeling the fast breeze approaching, while the whole time screaming that there is no such thing as a train.

The instant of impact there is realization and regret.  We don't take pleasure in his eternal suffering, but he had many, many opportunities to repent.  He has left a legacy of hatred, pride, and lies that have the potential of leading many people down into that train tunnel of hopelessness and despair.

What a tragically sad, destructive life.

A lesson for us all ... how not to live.
